EPIDEMIOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION ON EPIDEMIC ENCEPHALITIS IN JEONBUG PROVINCE



Abstract
The authors investigated epidemiological characteristics of human cases of epidemic encephalitis in Jeonbug province for three years from 1973 to 1975. The results of this study were summarized as follows:
1. The mean ages of encephalitis incidence were 7.3¡¾2.7 years in 1973, 7.4¡¾3.5 years in 1974, and 7.7¡¾3.2 years in 1975.
2. Case-fatality rates by the year were 17. 3 per cent in 1973, 19. 2 per cent in 1974, and 14.0 percent in 197;
3. Age-specific case fatality rate was not changed according to the increment of age.
4. Main epidemic periods were one month from 24 August to 25 September every year. 5. Incidence rate by the year was highest in suburban area, then it was in order of
plain, downtown and mountainous area.
6. Incidence rate of downtown in Jeonju city was 12. 7 per 100, 000 population, while that of suburban was 49.2 per 100,000 population.
